How to pack for several weeks and only have carry on luggage.

All the items below fit in to an allowed size rollerbag -105 cm for domestic and 115 cm for some domestic and International flights. This bag and all its contents only weighs 7kg.

See the list below for what is in the bag . We have also listed the current rules for domestic carry on luggage (Why don't the domestic carriers have the same rules throughout Australia?), but when flying internationally, please check with your airline.

The traveller will also be wearing an outfit  with accessories such as a hat, buff,  and a hand/ sling bag for those necessities like a passport/ tickets and your favourite lipstick . Our traveller is wearing Vigilante travel jeans, and a windstopper jacket.

Airlines carry on rules: For more information regarding Baggage rules, please see our links on the menu. Summary of rules current at 1 December 2009:

Virgin.

You may take, free of charge, baggage weighing up to 7 kg on board with you, which might consist of:

• 1 piece not exceeding dimensions of 23 cm in depth, 34 cm in height and 48 cm in length, (total linear dimensions equal to 105cm), and;
• 1 suit pack or garment bag, non rigid/unfolded not exceeding 11cm in depth x 60cm in width x 114cm in length (total linear dimensions equal to 185 cm), or another small bag or briefcase

In addition these items are allowed

• Laptop computer, a handbag, pocketbook or purse
• An overcoat, wrap or blanket
• An umbrella without metal points, or walking stick
• A small camera or pair of binoculars
• Infants’ food for consumption in flight
• A pair of crutches or prosthetic devices for your use, provided that you are dependant on them for mobility

Jetstar.

 Cabin baggage

Passengers travelling on Jetstar Group Services:

Cabin Baggage limits are strictly applied. Each Passenger (except infants not occupying an aircraft seat) is permitted 1 main item of Cabin Baggage and 1 other small item, with a total combined weight of up to 10kg for Jetstar (JQ) and Jetstar Asia (3K/VF) or 7kg Jetstar Pacific (BL). If you are travelling with an infant, you may also carry on infant food for consumption inflight. If a seat has been booked for an infant, an approved infant car seat is permitted.

Each Passenger travelling on a StarClass fare is permitted 1 additional main item of Cabin Baggage provided that only one item may be a suit pack or garment bag, provided that each main item does not exceed 10kg, with a total combined Cabin Baggage weight of up to 20kg.

• For Jetstar (JQ) and Jetstar Asia (3K/VF), dimensions of main items must not exceed 56cm (width) 36cm (height) 23cm (depth) for an overnight bag, laptop bag or briefcase,
• For Jetstar Pacific (BL), dimensions of main items must not exceed 48cm (width) 34cm (height) 23cm (depth) for an overnight bag or briefcase.
• For a suit pack or garment bag, dimensions must not exceed 11cm (height), 60cm (width) and 114cm (length) for a suit pack or garment bag - measured unfolded.
• Small item may be a small handbag, pocket book or purse, coat, umbrella, or for international flights, duty free goods (where permitted)
• Each piece must be able to fit under the seat in front of you or fit in an enclosed storage compartment in the cabin of the aircraft
• If any piece of Baggage does not comply with any of these conditions, it must be checked in to the aircraft hold or may not be carried on your flight

Current Qantas and QantasLink Carry-on Baggage allowances for adults and children (except infants) are as follows. Any change to the Carry-on Baggage allowances will be notified a month in advance by updating this page.
